>Last month, deep in a 500-page environmental impact statement, the Trump administration made a startling assumption: On its current course, the planet will warm a disastrous 7 degrees by the end of this century.
>A rise of 7 degrees Fahrenheit, or about 4 degrees Celsius, compared with preindustrial levels would be catastrophic, according to scientists. Many coral reefs would dissolve in increasingly acidic oceans. Parts of Manhattan and Miami would be underwater without costly coastal defenses. Extreme heat waves would routinely smother large parts of the globe.
>But the administration did not offer this dire forecast, premised on the idea that the world will fail to cut its greenhouse gas emissions, as part of an argument to combat climate change. Just the opposite: The analysis assumes the planet’s fate is already sealed.

money shot right here

this is what will actually happen, some sort of massive ecological disaster (ala the dust bowl but bigger) will hit China and India, two nuclear-armed countries that already can't agree on a border. The results will likely lead to a lot of street shitters and chinks dying, which will cause their economies to collapse thereby reducing co2 emissions. The more death, the less co2. If both are totally eliminated global co2 emissions would immediately fall at least 50-60%.

There are all sorts of geoengineering methods that should be able to blunt the impact of global warming for a relatively cheap price. For example, the estimated cost of using Marine Cloud Brightening to block any plausible warming effect is only $9 billion a year, well within the range of even developing countries like Indonesia or Brazil to afford. Not a perfect solution of course, but better than doing nothing, and certainly will be used to prevent any 'doomsday' scenarios the fear-mongers try and push.

More or less this.
No amount of "green policy" from all of america and europe can undo what china and india are shitting out. Theyre incidentally also the most densely populated places on earth so when natural disasters start fucking us up, global pop will drop insanely fast and rebalance its own output.

Global warming is the death of liberalism, period. The monarchists and fascists were closer to right than liberals ever were. Liberalism cripples strong action in numerous ways.

I'm not saying we can't try it, but speculative geoengineering cannot be a crutch to avoid reducing emissions. Reducing emissions is a preferable strategy as it is directly effective, cheaper, and clearly feasible. Geoengineering methods are secondary strategies at best.

we should still try

A lot more solar towers out in the desert would be a great start. More wind farms too, including offshore. And solar heating districts with seasonal thermal storage in cities to reduce heating fuel use. There's no reason not to.

What you are missing is that India and China are as much desperate to stop climate change as we are. Yes, they want to industrialise and get rich. But they also are in great peril. Their food and water security is at risk. Neighboring countries pose a bigger treat. The cost of natural disasters keeps increasing.

They also have already moved to curb their emissions greatly and have shown sincere desire to sign a mutual agreement to reduce emissions.

The US stands alone as the stubborn asshole who keeps shitting on the rest of the world.

Climatologists do not use the scientific method.
