Where do you think biological/medical technology will be at in like 40 years? Will we all be supermen running on computationally designed protein drugs?

>> No.10033355

I unironically think we will get tanged.

I think cancer won't be such a big problem in 40 years time, but cardiovascular deseases will be the same or even worse. Antibiotic resistance would probably get worse, so infections might be on the rise.

Not very far from where we're now. We're way past the point of diminishing returns.

Why do people think the future will allow everyone to have superhuman abilities? Why do they always talk about a "we"? Who is that even? The underclass that has no control over the product of its labors? The cattle?

Why would the cattle be given such things in a finite world with finite resources? Why would we outgrow the basis for a need for hierarchical control?

>>10034391
Cancer was cured 100 years ago.

The causes of cardiovascular disease are decently understood, and also include power lines and dirty electricity.

Antibiotic resistance is an artificial problem. There naturally occurring non-toxic compounds known to destroy strains of MRSA that have developed significant resistance to other antibiotics, at very low concentrations. They don't form resistance to these compounds. Examples are carvacrol, thymol, and eugenol. The constituents of goldenseal are various chinese herbs are beginning to be studied extensively. Thankfully, ethnopharmacology will bail out the broader degenerate westerner if the medical-pharmaceutical complex ever allows treatments to develop incorporating such things, and extracts of whole plants.

Also, pathogens can be destroyed in the body by the same mechanism as cancer, as discovered by Royal Rife. Cancer is a pleomorphic organism that has fungal, viral, and L-form states. When it's stressed it generates the viral form during its death, which opportunistically acts upon weakened or damaged cells. These highly localized environments will also be electromagnetically messed up, and neighboring cells will begin to behave cancerously due to membrane-mediated signal transduction. This is why when you take these cells out of the tumor environment and put them around normal cells, they cease to be cancerous. This is why there is a delineation between cancer stem cells, daughter cells, and cells in their immediate vicinity. Cancer is a virus that takes hold in times of weakness and altered signalling.

How do you figure? I mean, given genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, fluxomics, microfloraomics, omics omics omics, bioinformatics, computational molecular modeling, custom antibodies, more and more research on little particular subjects, crispr, etc etc it seems like we're on an explosive march forward right now

What religion is that exactly?

>>10033308
Same as today. Lots of "cures" that are trickled out at 10,000% marked up costs to leach off medical insurance, 5 more Schedule 1 drugs, 100s more technologies that are, "just 10 years away," and lots more circumcisions for babies.

ah yes lets put billions of dollars into each of ten different drugs, only one of which will be successful and then sell that one for the costs of manufacturing and completely ignoring research costs or the profit levels required to wager billions of dollars

Wanna know why it's all so hard, kiddo? Wanna know why it's practically exponential with cost to bring a drug to market rising 8 - 13 percent annually, and combining? Y'ever really think about it? Oh no, I betcha you didn't. You just assumed they were guys just like you doin their best and there's just some bitter truths of the world making them catch some unfounded criticism!

The fact is, as time goes on and you make these investments and you establish highly interconnected markets that you can milk for guaranteed income, you're disincentivized to do anything that would destabalize or destroy these markets. Everyone big enough to matter is eventually mutually bound by their own respective investments, and so they proceed to just take superficial swipes here and there.

R&D got real hard because things are developed and organized enough that they're hitting mechanical impossibility and have written themselves into a corner. Luckily, the racket is well guarded by the FDA, their own PR, et al. Think you could bring a drug / treatment to market on your own? Fuck no, you could never afford to pay your half of the clinical trials and other (frankly rudimentary) measures. So there ya have it. Mind blown, that's how it really works.

If they factored in the cost of R&D into the drugs, including the R&D of all the drugs they research even if they are succesful or not, and add something like 200% profit over initial investment it would still be much much cheaper than it is now

Come back when you do. The truth is, I don't think you will be back, and I don't think you can.

>Holy shit this /pol/ infestation is getting on my nerves.
Describe what's "/pol/" about it. Likewise, explain to me how you think science is magically apolitical. Cuz' you watched Bill Nye when you were a kid? Cuz you've always been told science is about truth and nature and is irrefutably self evident, above the petty squabblings of man?

It'd be nice. But in function, it ain't so.
