The IQ meme is the only thing in 4chan history to really get to me.

I've always done well in education but I worry so much about my IQ. Why fucking bother doing anything when Wolfram or Tao could do it in a tenth of the time?

I want to learn maths and science in my free time but I procrastinate partly because whenever I get stuck I worry that my IQ is too low to do anything worthwhile

And now the IQ meme infects every aspect of my life, not just maths etc. So if I eat too much junk food when I told myself I wouldn't, I worry that it's due to low IQ. When I can't bear giving more structure to my life (goals, deadlines, schedules etc.) I worry it's because of a low IQ.

It's not that I notice my stupidity or can't function in the everyday world. I can spot bullshit and logical fallacies and so on. But I just lose all fucking motivation when there are inevitably people out there who are smarter than me or luckier than me or both. Why even bother?

Look up the principle of comparative advantage; it's a theorem in economics which means that no matter how bad you are compared to other people there's still stuff you can do that increases the amound of good generated in the world (in whatever units you want: dollars, theorems, utilons).

Intuitively, Wolfram and Tao are really smart, so if they're not proving the most important theorems there's a huge opportunity cost. But this means that there's no one around to prove the second most important theorem - except you!

Why do you compare yourself to people you will never meet? It's simple why you should bother: because the world is not a single player (and not even a multiplayer) game. It's a convention where there are multiple games going on and you're free to join the table you think will be the most fun. In order to have fun, you don't need to play into big leage games. You only need to play with friends. It's not that IQ gives you the ability to do those things. It's that IQ enables you to succeed which makes it easier for you to have motivation and discipline.

I only took an >online IQ test from Mensa Norway. I'm guessing I should wait to make the test more accurate right? So I actually solve the matrices instead of recalling them.

I think my first test placed me accurately as a brainlet (118), I want to retest for other reasons.

I know people with sub-par IQ doing well in engineering and science degrees because they work hard. Because the ever expanding horizon of knowledge is so vast that any amount helps. There's always something to work on that nobody is working on. Pare yourself down to a really specific field and try and work on new stuff in that domain.
