What was always intersting about /sci/ is that there were almost only 16 year old school level and engineer level math questions, but for some reason it was also a sort of hotspot, if you can call it that, for set theory and category folks. I've been around the internet enough to say it's rare that among such a low level, you could find 3 to 6 people knowing some of those things. Not that there aren't enough knowledgable folks out there, but it was clearly overrepresented when you look at the average.
