Fucking unholy amounts of cope. Engineers are responsible for the construction of new tools, tech and infrastructure along with planning, experimenting and building new machinery, scientists spend their time researching the world for future opportunities for new innovations and tech. The guy who made that just wanted to stroke his ego and wanted to hide under the belief that people who go the extra mile for careers are all apparently losers

What? To become a lawyer, a doctor or a top CEO of a business you need to absolutely go the extra mile for your career. Its only engineers that dont have to go this extra mile. Engineers get by with baby bachelors degrees. To become a lawyer you need to get a J.D. and pass the Bar examination. To become a lawyer you need to get an M.D. And to become a top CEO type guy requires more work than most engineers could possibly fathom doing

Engineers don't have to work long hours or sacrifice much for their career. Its the only high paying career that lets you have a work-life balance. But the pay is not that high, thats the tradeoff.

This image completely ignores the fact that the majority of lawyers and businessmen are underpaid slave labor that will never pay their student debts. The lawyers are minimum wage document reviewers if they can even get that job. Most business majors are shift managers at Subway.
The counterclaim you hear to this is, "Oh, well they didn't go to the right school and get the right grades and connections." If being successful in your field requires getting a 4.0 at Yale and jerking off someone in a coffin, then maybe its not the degree that matters.
Doctors are the only classic UMC job that still pays as long as you specialize. You can still go to a generic medical school and have a good career.
Engineers are the only other career you see on there that can claim the same thing, although not to the same degree. Even this field is dying though.
Getting a science degree is a meme. You will spend your entire life working towards advancing human knowledge only to never get tenure. All the while you watch the dumb bitch and the one guy who does nothing but go drinking every night get everything.

What type of businessman? A business major is literally a "look dad, I got a degree ok?" Degree
Do agree scientists are slaves, but the lowest common denominator of engineers is still a fuck ton better than any of the careers mentioned here sans MD.

Dont get me wrong MBAs are fucking cancer, but Im assuming the original pic implies finance worker by businessman, who work long hours but do make shitloads. Hell, starting engineer salary in the UK is $38k if youre lucky, while a fucking graduate consultant can get $65k in some high end places.

Also, I think engineers can do well if they're not total autists in social situations and have an internal drive for building something bigger than themselves, but I don't have any experience in that regard.

No. This was clearly put together by someone who doesn't understand the realities of any of those professions. I've seen plenty of T14 lawyers struggling to get by, doctors who don't clear much after expenses (insurance!) and hate their lives, the vast majority of business people make mediocre money and shuffle paper all day. Engineers and scientists tend to do all right. Look at BLS statistics sometime instead of a meme.

This is true if you compare the top 1% of lawyers, doctors and businessmen against the average engineer. If you're not making disingenuous comparisons then you'll find things are close to equal among those fields.

>> No.12252038

No engineers are alpha. Never met a good engineer who gave a shit about what you thought of them. There is a 'business' side to engineering too eg telling someone the project they have been working on for months is doomed to fail, telling their bosses the engineer they hired doesn't understand heat exchange, explain a simple solution you came up with on the back of an envelope. Old engie gets fired cause they wasted millions on a 2 year project that was obviously doomed, you get hired on a better salary for not giving a crap about their feelings.

I agree with this, but it depends whether you want to aim high or for the lowest common denominator. Aiming for a guaranteed $80k average over lifetime or taking a risk for $200k+
