>Mother is dragging me for doing nothing all day
>I try tell her Im working on my tech startup idea and Im waiting for the results of a government grant application to come back
>Tells me I need to go work in a real company like a big boy

I do NOT want to be a fucking wagie CAD monkey for 5 years at some bumfuck engineering plant with fake coworker friends getting railed by a boss and coming home to 'unwind' with senile-tier hobbies in the evenings just so that I MIGHT be promoted into a proper engineer position afterwards and then have to stick to the career forever.

Have you actually worked in industry anon?
It can be quite nice if you like what you're doing and your company is good. And you can still quit at any point. If you want to be an entrepreneur, it's also a good way of collecting both experience and capital. Don't fall for le wagekek memes, you're not a fastfood worker.

I've interned twice - both times in small companies filled by boomers - and I despised it. I got the impression that as a junior engineer I'd get the absolute scrubbiest work to do and I won't learn anything engaging either. My friend who has already worked for a year likes it, but he only did a small bit of actual engineering, and is now switching to a fucking project manager stream.

It's hell. You are correct, op. Work in engineering is just pointless. There's this bizarre phenomena where idiots get promoted, because they can't do engineering, to do administrative tasks, but then think they are smarter than everyone else. They just exist to fuck shit up and blame you. I've been in the industry for 10 years, and most of my time has been wasted doing the wrong projects the wrong way because some boomer semi-moron needs a dog and pony show to impress some even dumber boomer higher up on the corporate ladder.

I think Peter Thiel gives the most honest and helpful advice for what area you should focus on for a startup. Highly recommend listening to his stuff. But you’re probably lazy which makes it basically impossible to be successful

Is there any reason you can’t work on your startup without some kind of part time job in the meantime?

I do CAD automation. We laid off half our MechEs this year. Get fucked wagie I'm coming for you

Good, you probably took a lot of people out of misery and helped bring us closer to full automation.

Man, in my last job, 60 yo + niggas were doing CAD design as a fulltime job, and they were contract workers, hopping from placing to place to do this shit every few years. Absolutely tragic.

>>12021863
I could, but if I get a job I might as well get a real engineering job than stacking shelves in a supermarket. That can wait until summers done anyway.

>>12021526
Ill check it out

Yikes. Whatever happened to this profession? Why are we treated like dogshit when technological progress is what drives history?
