Hello smart people, a tourist from /pol/ here. Just saw a video of a physicists using Gödel's incompleteness theory to base atheism, but Ive heard it argued the other way around to justify existence of God and religiosity. Gödel himself was religious and a theist Christian. I understand that a scientific theory is independent from the researcher and it is the essence of theory that matters not the background of the author, but there must be a reason why he himself though his ideas led to religion and God. Im extraordinarily retarded so if you could please explain to me the application of this theory on religion and possibly politics/ideology like you would explain it to a moron I would greatly appreciate it.

If the incompleteness theorem was instrumental to believing in God, dont you think he would have put it in the bible? The meaning of the word faith seems to have gone completely over your head.

you can't use the incompleteness theorem to prove or disprove the existence of God

God cannot be "proven" nothing in the real world can be proven
You must Demonstrate in the real world
so it doesnt matter how hard you think about a "proof of god"
it doesnt have any bearing on the real world until you actually stand up and demonstrate the existence of god

Gödel was kind of a heterodox figure. in fact, in the latter part of his career, he was basically a crank. he is quoted saying things like “i don’t believe in science” and keep in mind that he was not a scientist, he was a mathematician. and, for the record, he was basically a one-trick pony at math Some anon posted the article on /tv/ and I was curious.

his whole god thing should be assessed using the same amount of skepticism. he had his opinions, OK, he was some sort of religious, granted. but putting that into context with the rest of what he says — basically all his opinions outside of his tiny niche of fundamental math were either blatantly wrong or completely ridiculous. so unless you are studying something very close to what Gödel’s research was, you can rest assured that d everything else he opined on was complete shit

>scientific theory is independent from the researcher
That's ridiculous. How did you manage to get convinced that's how it is?
