Who knows what use accurate information will be if it can't be used for pushing some goals.

My dad's been feeling like shit lately. No energy, loopy, chills, headaches. I keep asking him to take some vitamin c or something to help it but he's so afraid of coronavirus he refuses to take any treatment or acknowledge that he might have it.

He watches the news all day everyday, 24/7 news cycle all the time CNN, MSNBC, CBS, etc. He can't keep his eyes off of it. Hasn't been able to for years, even though it fucks with his anxieties and mental health.

Finally got him to talk to a doctor though. I don't understand his hesitation. The sooner he gets it checked out the better

I have. He's not comfortable with heart to hearts, especially when it's something that's bothering him. It's like he's a women he just expects the entire family to know what's wrong without any kind of communication with us.

My dad is very strange. I worry for him often since he has no real friends outside of his drug dealer friends, he never tells you what's wrong (especially when mom is around, the only time he's ever opened up to me was when we were far away from Mom), and like I said he's glued to the TV as soon as he gets home from work all day everyday news. Funny enough, whenever I debunk the trash he picks up from the news media, it becomes apparent that he's very comfortable with the narrative the news projects for him. I don't know how he got to that point of view, if it was an escape from something worse or whatever, but that's just who he is.

tl;dr
He's a stubborn as a mule. I'm more than certain he's afraid of getting it. I fell for the fear porn just like he did but eventually I got over it and now it is what it is. I can't even get him to take his temperature. I ordered a pulse oximeter though and I'm hoping that if he lets me use it on him, he'll get some relief, or some fear. And I don't have to talk the dangerous part about his refusal to talk about it or take a test is that if he doesn't check now, it might be too late later on. We'll see

He has a very troubled past and a lot of childhood trauma. I admire him a lot even though he is the way he is. He used to be a major alcoholic even with my mom around, but he quit the day my mom was pregnant with me.

The only thing that's worked sort of is therapy, but he can't do that easily right now so he doesn't. I had a long talk about with a therapist some years back and he just told me that since he's coming up on 60, there's really no changing him. Maybe some reconciliation and truth therapy is possible but not much else. He is stuck in his ways.

It could also be from him falling down a ladder 2 days ago. Idk. Thanks for the hopes though anon. I'm here for him, so he'll be just fine and safe.

You're a very good whatever you gender is. I respect you for who you are. What type of childhood trauma did he get that made him the way he is? Who caused it? I hope your father battles this terrible condition he's facing. Sure he's gonna become 60 but I have heard many over 60 year olds change, one used to be a very large alcoholic, drug user, was sexually abused by multiple relatives, and the day he felt like he wanted to just be there and sleep everytime, he decided to say no and change. Sounds cliche but that happened, now he has multiple children he takes care of.

I know this quote sounds cringe and 'cliche' but it applies well
"There's nothing known as failure unless the man doesn't change until he dies, thinking what he was a failure".

Where do I start. His father was a bastard son, both of his biological parents were drunks who orphaned him at the hospital with no name. He was picked up my a small foster home along with his biological brother (not twins strangely enough). The parents there basically took care of him but they were very neglectful and rude. He always tells me how they used to use him and abuse him for their own gain whenever they could, be it social clout or an extra buck. He had to watch one his brothers from the foster home get abducted. Apparently it was his brothers biological parents who didn't have custody of him, my dad was 15. He was going into a barber shop with his brother, but when he turned back to see where he was it was too late.

He eventually got adopted into a nice family, but as soon as he entered high school he was a huge druggie. He tells me it took a lot of time to recover from that stage in his life, eventually he went from drug addict to alcoholic. he spent a lot of his adult life sleeping on strangers couches and taking whatever job he could. When he met my mom he was living in this stinking old apartment in a very run down part of town. He changed a lot since he met her though, my mother is very controlling and domineering and I guess that's exactly what he needed in his life. He still smokes pot but that's it.

Feels kind of weird listing my father's history out like that on coronavirus general but I love a good story. It's not too late for him I suppose. I don't know what I can do, maybe just nudge him in the right direction. Or take a stand? No he'll just turtle up.

Diet? He's a junkie. Always has been. Can't stand the sight of healthy food only eats junk food. You'd be surprised to know he's very skinny though.
That's about it though. Thank you for you kindness anon.

>How likely are you to die if you're an asymptomatic carrier?
0%? Pretty much by definition, you can't die while being asymptomatic, because death is a symptom of disease.

Your aunt should isolate for 8 days, and if symptoms never appear she's basically good to go. If you're really worried, get her a pulse oximeter ($30 to $60 at a pharmacy or grocery store, unless your area is particularly hard hit there should still be stock on shelves), and have her test her blood oxygen every couple hours; if she's at 95% or higher there's nothing to worry about, 90 to 94% she should contact her doctor, and if it goes to 89% or lower and stays there for any amount of time she should go to the ER.

Other that that, I mean, if she doesn't develop a fever, and her blood oxygen stays above 95%, and she doesn't develop symptoms then... well, she's fine. COVID can occasionally turn nasty fairly quickly, yes, but it doesn't do so instantly, and as long as you're watching your vitals you can get help before it crosses the point of no return.

We're fucked. You don't even know man we are so fucked.

The virus? It's fucking nothing. They're pumping the fear up and getting people to surrender their liberties just like they did back in 2001 just so they can consolidate more power over people and get them to accept it.

Not once, not ever not during any pandemic or outbreak has the US ever made people stay in their homes like this. Stop buying the narratives that this is the new normal. They want you to think that so they can get away with their power grabs.

The virus will become endemic and can't be stopped, but by next year it'll be literally nothing and you'll probably forget about it. You know what you won't forget? The fact that you let the state tell you that you have to stay inside because they said so.

No joke they're arresting people for walking their dogs in the park or walking down the sidewalk in some states. Coronavirus is temporary, the slow erosion of your civil liberties is permanent. You will never get them back. Ever. Only by force or blood or some miracle.

Adding to what other anons have said:
*keep a daily log of your symptons
*if you get a pulse oxymeter remember to take baseline measurements (or 'not so fucked yet' measurements since you're already pozz'd)
*postural drainage
*nebulization with NAC solution (super important to aid expectoration if you're gonna use a mucolytic so don't skimp on the PD)
*NAC also comes in fizzy tablets and there's also guaifenesin (which might not do much but won't hurt either), just be extra careful and avoid combination solutions - DMX or some other shit could kill you
*always keep your bananaphone at hand since your condition can deteriorate rapidly in a fairly short timespan (docs have reported cases of strapping young lads going from "a-OK" to "oh shit he needs oxygen" in just ~5 hours)

I don't completely understand how covid-19 "dies"

Is this virus like decaying nuclear material?

Does it last longer in the fridge than in room temperature?

What about humidity?

Does it die in open air faster than pressed between two layers of plastic in some substance?

Last week:
>Ferguson leads a team of mathematical modellers at Imperial — about six of whom have the coronavirus, including him. Their projections of how the pandemic will unfold have dominated government policy-making. This is a marked change to previous epidemics where ministers have called in teams of modellers from rival universities who compete to work out the best responses.

>Yet for other scientists the big problem with Ferguson’s model is that nobody can tell how it - the 13 year old piece of software - works. It consists of several thousand lines of dense computer code, with no description of which bits of code do what. Ferguson agreed this is a problem. “For me the code is not a mess, but it’s all in my head, completely undocumented. Nobody would be able to use it . . . and I don’t have the bandwidth to support individual users.”

>Last week he and his colleagues published new research showing that if unchecked it would infect almost everyone in the world, killing about 40 million people in a year. But with prompt health measures just over a million would die.

This week:
>The scientist whose advice prompted Boris Johnson to lock down Britain resigned from his Government advisory position on Tuesday night as he broke social distancing rules to meet his married lover.

>Ferguson allowed the woman to visit him at home during the lockdown while lecturing the public on the need for strict social distancing in order to reduce the spread of coronavirus. Mrs Staats, a left-wing campaigner and her husband live together with their two children in a £1.9 million home, but are understood to be in an open marriage.

>Prof Ferguson has frequently appeared in the media to support the lockdown and praised the "very intensive social distancing" measures.

>"I acted in the belief that I was immune, having tested positive for coronavirus, and completely isolated myself for almost two weeks after developing symptoms.

So Ferguson is both a Doomer and a Coomer. What a world.

Viral particles are made up of structural proteins. Individual proteins are held together by covalent bonds between amino acids, and keep their shape through disulfide bridges and crystalline domains where nearby amino acids interact. When this is directly exposed to certain kinds of surfaces it will degrade due to chemical reactions with the surface material. Metals are pretty inert, with certain exceptions, which is why COVID falls apart on them.

Humidity would probably increase the rate of death because it changes the medium to a better one for reactions, which we've seen confirmed tentatively. It would last longer at low temperatures because the reactions that cause decay should proceed slower. It should live longer in open air than in between layers of plastic, with the exception that if the plastic is shielding it from UV rays (which are highly reactive with polymers like proteins) the decay rate will be slower than in open air. E.g., it will decay slower encased in plastic outside than in direct exposure to the air where it can encounter UV rays.

I understand this from a born hypochondriac's point of view. How people are living now, suspicious of being in a grocery store around strangers and jumpy over every cough is how I live from December-February every single year.
I'd rather get infected and take the small risk of death doing what I enjoy than continue to live in perpetual avoidance of my fear.
People are already giving less and less of a fuck every day. America's attention span is too short for something as slow as a pandemic. If the outbreaks turns out to be a truly horrific prolonged act of bioterrorism, we're going to be held up as the textbook example of what not to do but we can't help ourselves. We'll crumble into a third-world country and accept a life expectancy under 70 before we'll commit to a wartime effort against an enemy that we can't bomb.

On top of this, this is with a new virus. I guarantee you that the only reason this is a bigger deal than the flu right now is because it's new and almost nobody's immune systems are tuned against it.

Watch, over the next 2 or 3 years it'll go from big scary virus to, looming threat, to the new flu. It mutates often and the strain that will survive the best will be the least deadliest one.

Well, it depends really. I don’t have a fever, sore throat, or runny nose. But I do have ”motion sickness” now. This causes me to vomit once in a while. And also, the meanest cough. I mean, airways feel like walling up if I stop doing it. Fucking hell.

The chinks have had lax (or no) stem cell guidelines for decades.
Combine that with a culture of ignoring regulation and human rights.
If some lab was doing illegal longitudinal genetic research, and keeping it a secret, they could have made a quantum leap in genetics.

I think that the viral genome is probably too small to be a genetic weapon, but what if it were released to sound the alarm that the perfect bio-weapon was a few generations away from completion.
