hey /sci/, does anyone know of a worthwhile community (online or otherwise) that is staunchly materialist but supports humanist ethics? like, i don’t believe in anything supernatural or paranormal, but i think democracy and human rights are good. is there any group like that?

here are things i can’t stand:
>muh god(s) and muh spirits
>yoga, chakras, qi
>racism/tribalism/sexism
>transhumanism/scifi idiots

like, for example, i believe in “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” purely logically, for my sake and others’ sake in this lifetime, not because sky wizard will send you to hell if you disobey.

do groups sharing these beliefs exist?

not science or math

Pretty much any left-liberal political group holds these views, so you could join them.

you'd think that, but in my experience in the left, you either get one of two really retarded non-materialist standpoints that define how those people typically work

1)
>i go to yoga class and drink kombucha and get herbal medicine because the medical establishment is corrupt. muh chakras are real
2)
>i reject science and materialism because that is patriarchy. science doesn't know shit about me and muh identity, i can be a girl or a pony if i want to. just read foucault and the standard texts of post-structuralism. everything is a social construct, so it everything in science, scientists are just patriarchy so fuck that, i can believe in whatever i want, i make it so, i'm a fucking empowered woke queen

neither of these seem to jive with my very scientific viewpoints on things

well, i was probably to broad with my statement.
Non dogomatic marxist and socialist groups in general should still be pretty close to what you are looking for. certain type of libertarians as well, i imagine. (granted, these groups are a minority in comparison to the liberal hippie type you mentioned. I also recommend you to take post-structuralism and its good writers seriously. They can be compatible with more traditional views on society and give real actual insight.
if anything else fails, visit your local philosophy department.

well the bernie camp seems to me to be the biggest american group of the kind you refer to, along with the “democratic socialists” who fly that red rose icon, and they seem to me to be either part of the “everything is a social construct” camp, i.e. number 2), or at least bow down to it in the face of the flood of identity politics that has overtaken both left and right since 2016

philosophy departments also (i suspect) wouldn’t help me, since those guys are specialists in the abstract thinking realm (and by abstract thinking i don’t mean math, i mean bullshitting about Kant and Jung and all that other abstract philosophical nonsense). philosophers are almost equally to blame for the poststructuralist scourge

and if you are not that far to the left, I am sure there are still materialistic inclined liberal groups.

sure, but can you name one? i can’t find any. it’s all newagers or lgbT-emphasis-on-T-idenitiy-politician crap

There are many but none of them are worthwhile.

I've thought about starting one. I don't know how many would be interested though. I would do it for a couple dozen or more but not 2 or 3.

Those autistic mentally damaged faggots belong on >>>/reddit/ as well just like you (the person who made a non science or math thread on a science and math board like a smoothbrained retard), shithead.

because i am a /sci/autist who always posts here, and because i think this board is the best for this topic because it deals with science. maybe my ideas are not shared universally, but i think that a properly educated scientific person cannot deny that materialism is basically the standard way scientists view the world, at least professionally, and if one wants to try to reconcile that set of beliefs with one's personal beliefs, you are driven to this kind of question. OTOH people who deal in nonsense humanities or philosophy or political theory have no concept of what "materialism" really means (just ask them to state one coherent fact about quantum mechanics and they'll be SOL)

Chakras are somehow real... It's autosuggestion., most of this stuff, but chakras learn you useful psychology, somehow. Being obsessed by stuff like that is wrong.

How do you know what is sci-fi? Asgardia is somehow trying to raise money for some space stuff, is that scifi? What your parents learned you that don't exist can be reality today.

People told me quantum computer is not real just two days ago.
