Alright so I saw a few videos on the higgs field and it got me thinking
First of all, I’m a pleb when it comes to science so if I get this shit all wrong then feel free to correct me.

>the higgs field hasn’t reached vaccuum state like every other field
>If it does, in theory, it would rearrange the the physical properties of the universe in an unconcievable way
>The vacuum state higgs field would theoretically expand at the speed of light
>If that happened near by we wouldn’t know about it, it would hit you and for all we know you’d be gone
>Cern has a lab where they fuck around with molecules and shit all the time
>We can test this theory and basically suicide bomb our local region of the universe

Now get this
>Alien empire a few galaxies away
>Centuries after we kill ourself by fucking up the higgs field
>The higgs field bomb reaches them
>They lose a planet every few centuries
>Can’t actually see the fucking thing eating their planet away, it just looks normal cause light is moving at the same rate as the higgs field bomb
>Try sending ships to check up on planets
>Ship is fucking just gone whenever they go that direction
>They know something is up but they literally can’t observe what it is

How the fuck would they respond to that shit?

how would they know the ship is gone, OP?

I’m neither of those people. I didn’t see some dude using that picture until after I posted.

You are right.

They’d be fucked and not even know it.

They wouldn't respond at all. It would just be over in an instant; completely unexpected. Unless they have faster than light communication and are able to detect that their empire is being destroyed by something moving at c by noticing a lack communication in an area

if they don't have FTL capability then they wouldn't. if they do have FTL capability then they'd notice the ship not returning when it was supposed to

if such an empire existed it would probably have FTL capability

this post is 100% wrong in terms of the science

the higgs field has a nonzero expectation value at low temperature, but the vacuum is stable. it already is present everywhere, since ever, “expanding” is not something that applies to any quantum field except if you’re talking about the background spacetime
