How do you learn so many formulas? I'm only doing Finance and this shit is killing me. I can't imagine any hardcore Math or Science shit

>> No.9938349

You can't learn finance formulas because they're stupid and boring, and don't make any sense. Unless you're a soulless roboto. Physics and maths formulas are cool and beautiful so they easily stick in your brain. Thanks for listening.

We trust that notation was invented by geniuses that were thinking about how the shape of a formula would reinforce its meaning and vice-versa, creating an infinite feedback loop in your brain that would allow for easy memorization. It works, as I don't need to store entire formulas in my brain but just their shapes, and then the details slowly come to me as I start writing it. The best example is, in my opinion, Stokes' Theorem.

I don't know about finance but if you have a lot of boring formulas written by uninspired hacks then odds are you do have to store the entire content in your brain, which would be a hassle.

by this logic, shouldn't some engineering formulas be hard to memorize as well? Quite a lot of them tend to be more empirical and make no sense when it comes to the dimensions

Don't learn formulas, learn their derivations. You don't understand something if you can't justify it.

Some engineering formulas, but most of the ones you learn in undergrad are pretty simple. If you can't remember it exactly but the units work out, chances are it's right.

In that case, it really is a trivial formula.
You can derive it just knowing basic algebra.
If it doesn't seem obvious, you should think about it until it does.

Drawing, creating stories around it, relating it to phrases or things that are not that common to think about, etc.

Also, just put a bunch of papers with formulas thru your house or even as your pc/cp background. It will easily stick to your mind after some time.

The biggest problem I have with finance formulas are that it doesn't seem like order of operations exist. For example here, I thought I had to multiply 20% by (30/30+10) but what I actually had to do was multiple 30% by 30 THEN divide that by 30+10

See the red line?
The red line means you divide the stuff on the top by the stuff on the bottom.

The stuff on the top is 30
The stuff on the bottom is 30+10

0.2*(30/30+10) is fucking wrong.

Literally basic shit we all should have learned in 6th or 7th grade even before pemdas.

Pictures taken by phones or some modern digital cameras are usually rotated using exif data because the computational load of pixel rotation makes it hard to do while taking the picture.

This exif data is stripped when uploaded to 4chan (to keep people from doxxing themselves) so the picture appears in the orientation of the phone/camera sensor.
