Are these healthy in terms of sugar content? It seems like a lot, but I asked them about it and they said they don't add any sugar. It's just the natural sugar from the fruits. But it still seems like a lot.

Are you not aware that sugar is from plants in the first place? We get most of our "sugar" from corn, beets and sugar cane.

The reason the sugar content is so high is because they use fruit with high sugar content as an ingredient. There are 19 grams of sugar in a standard apple. You get as much sugar from a large apple as a snickers bar.

It's all relative to your needs. The biggest issue with these kinds of things is not that they are inherently unhealthy, but that people discount them as being so healthy that they've earned the right to make other unhealthy choices as if this somehow balances out as neutral.

I get that, but I'm saying is it healthy to drink? The sugar content is high, but since it's natural fruit sugar, does that make it ok despite it being 64 grams? Or should I avoid it?
>>9941426
So you're saying I should probably avoid it?

I think it might help if we go back to the core reason why sugars are considered unhealthy.

They make you fat because of high calories, they rot your teeth, and they can cause diabetes. Fruit smoothies can do all of those things just as easily with it's "natural" sugar as a coke can with it's added sugar

my point is that there's no difference. Sugar is sugar is sugar. Sure there are some slight differences between fructose and sucrose but they're pretty much indistinguishable in your body.

A healthy diet can contain sugars but just be aware that these fruit smoothies are pretty much the same thing as a milkshake

No, fruit is okay because it's packed with so much stuff that your body needs to break down, which is not the case in smoothies or fruit juice.
Even then, fruit isn't all that healthy: it's got lots of nutrients, but it's so sweet that its consumption should be somewhat limited.

It goes like this with sugar - the quicker the sugar gets into your blood stream the less you want to eat in 1 sitting.

Smoothies are pretty easy to digest and the sugar from them will get into your blood stream quite fast.

These are not healthy. Contains sherbeet and sweetened cream stuff. My brother put on 20 pounds in a few months, thinking he was being healthy

Sure sugar is sugar, but your body must expend more energy to break down the complex carbohydrates in plant matter as opposed to the sharp insulin spike caused by processed food.

Yes it is bad.
In general you should not drink fruit juice. Apple juice contains all of the sugar of apples yet none of the fiber. Just eat the fruit itself.

64g of sugar is more than you should take daily, let alone in one portion, even if it's from fruit it's refined enough that it will be digested quickly and cause a huge blood sugar spike.
I don't think there's a consensus on the upper limit, some sources say ~40g, depends on your overall calorie intake for the day.

Are you talking about free sugar (as in refined, or from fruit juices that the body absorbed complete)? In that case the general maximum is around 25g a day, if you are talking about all sugar there is no maximum, and its definitely not under 64g since eating a couple of fruits and vegetables would put you over it already. While cutting my total sugar was still over 100g a day eating nothing but chicken, rice, beans, steamed vegetables and some fruit.

Most sugar in fruits is fructose, Anon.
