Essay questions are literally ezmode. Your teacher is making sure you understand how to bullshit your way through things properly.
Back when I was in HS i had a history teacher exempted me from those kinds of questions because I would turn in novels.

Why is this a skill that should be cultivated? Short essay questions are almost always cancer because the topic is far too broad. I once had to write a 1k word essay with the topic "the sun" with no context. Just on principle I dropped the class and took another one the next semester to make it up.

Lmfao. I went to ivy tech, IVY TECH, for my first two years of my engineering degree and all of my calculus problems were designed to fuck you up. Not a single multiple choice, no leading questions or sections, just a problem with no context that you are expected to know how to solve.

The uni I go to has multiple choice calculus exams because there are like 300+ students in a class. I took calculus at a community college though and it was free response though.

because learning how to bullshit is how you survive in society. Lying and being fake is the only way to success in anything. Its better if you can lie to yourself while you are at it.
Being truthful is how you stay depressed and suicidal. Its how you push people away. Just interacting with different people throughout your day you put on different faces, and you lie about who you are, and when you are truthful to yourself, you realize that you are nobody but the culmination of all those faces of people society wants you to be, that you are nobody and have no free will, that you desire nothing.
