Why do people talk about "alpha and beta" in reference to a species that can hold complex mechanisms for teiring far beyond a number line?

>> No.9925816

Literally every single individual life form that has ever existed is "unique" in many ways, and that's especially true for complex, multi-celled lifeforms. Some level of abstraction and arbitrary divisions are required if you're going to try to draw any useful assumptions about the population as a whole. Being pedantic about the tiny differences isn't really helpful.

Concerning taxonomic vernacular and false dichotomy logical fallacies?

There is always an alpha and beta. Any time you pick one person over one other person you've got your alpha and beta so one person's alpha is another's beta.

Why u makin this thread? In a nutshell, women like someone who is socially adept. Even in animals a big dumb hoss knows he is beta to a very socially adept twink

All I'm saying is that all distinctions in biology are already arbitrary to an extent. You just work with a reasonable degree of error for the application you're working with. In many cases, dividing the population into two basic groups (alphas and betas) is useful for the given application.

This is not the same thing as the false dichotomy logical fallacy. Even in situations where people use "alpha" and "beta" to divide animal populations they'll also allow for individuals who don't fit into either category. And even in the case that they decide to relegate all examples into one of the two categories, it's still acceptable as long as they defined alpha and beta in a such a way that there are no exceptions.

of course, it's possible for a SPECIFIC example of somebody misusing alpha/beta labels, but there's nothing wrong with using that method if applied correctly.

Kinda circular reasoning, to be socially adept just means good at socializing, whatever that may be. Everything is a big fuckin circle.
