Can you change your personality with electroshock therapy?

I've been hooking up my car battery to my nipples for years and it doesn't seem to have changed anything.

You shock your head

Maybe that's why it didn't work, How do you attach it to your head. I'm uncut, can I just clip onto the foreskin?

You should be able to with your volition?

>> No.9925731

not in a controlled, directional manner, no.
it just kinda fucks your shit up. There's a lot we don't know.
It'd be like comparing personalities before and after head injuries and concussions, there may be a change, and the change may have a general trend perhaps, but its a symptom of the weird shit that happens when you fuck with a delicate instrument like the brain in a chaotic, bruteforce way

I wish

But it says it works very well for treating depression and other disorders. So that must mean they're capable of doing in it in some kind of controlled directional manner.

a change of scenery, or perspective can also work well for depression and some disorders, but I imagine like therapy it depends on the response of the person in question to these changes.
I'm not necessarily saying it's a placebo, or even very dangerous, but it's certainly not something that takes you from point A to point B. I would say what is more accurate is to say that the recipient feels a change - any change - to their personality, and is able to change their status quo and feel good about 'escaping' their previous mindset.
I don't see anything especially directional in that, I doubt medical books in the future will look back on it and say we were really on to something.

one more thing,

you could compare it to those "gay conversion" shock therapies in practice. It's not that it changes you to not being gay, but it provides a stimulus, a pressure to expect change, and enough of a shock and lingering effect in your mental state that you do start living your life differently, and become relieved that you've been "cured."
It certainly doesn't seem directional, and if you know anything about how these procedures are developed - again - it's not in any sense very refined. But it can be useful i suppose for those people who want to feel a certain way, but think nothing else works

kinda a similar question, but can you change someones personality with huge negative reinforcement? like a pavlov kind of thing?

would i be able to punish someone into being submissive?

>> No.9925891

>>9925605
yes, if you apply electroshock therapy to your balls for long enough, your personality will change.

It is proven that it can cure homosexuality, so probably other defects as well.

why the homophobia?

>> No.9927012

Sorry, I didn't mean to be homophobic

Electroshock therapy is reserved to individuals who are in SEVERE danger to themselves or others. It basically preforms a "calming" effect that doesn't last forever.
We don't understand why it works, but it's for those individuals who cannot use medication, or other common forms of treatment, to help manage their episodes.

A treatment of this sort is actually done to generate a phobia of children for pedophiles.

Yes, doing so can change your personality from that of a rational human being to an utter looney who believes that zapping themselves with electricity can alter their brain chemistry in some way.
