Pretty much every job listing here want's people with a background in mathematics, physics or engineering.
Even engineering job listings seem to favor mathematicians and physicists over people with actual engineering degrees.

and what's so depressing about working in a call center? You can't ever stop spending money until you die, so that means you can't ever stop earning/making money till you die. Accept that. I have a bachelors in Computer Science but worked my ass off in a call center for two years. It paid. It worked. I would rather try being homeless than killing myself.

>> No.9915618 [DELETED]

A lot of people do a Phd because they don't want to leave university and don't know what else to do. It doesn't guarantee a great job. I've worked with two guys with physics Phds, one from Warwick and one from Cambridge (in a financial services company). All they do is produce monthly reports for senior management for ~£30k a year

That's on you. There's plenty of PhD work that isn't published (non-significant results), and a lot of people, especially if they rush to finish, never bother converting chapters into papers.
It's easier if to turn papers into chapters, but depending on your program and advisor, you don't HAVE to publish.
