Does anyone here knows about sports science?
I'd like to know if using a cross trainer or treadmill has similar enough effects on heart's fitness to be a suitable replacement for running or jogging..

Your heart has no idea what your legs or arms are doing. You have to think about what you want to be good at. Anything that raises your heart rate sufficiently will work and the only actual difference is whether you want to excel in endurance or sprints
