Same reason engineers and scientists are required to take a CS class. The idea is that they can all speak each other's lingo well enough to communicate and work together. In the case of CS, the engineers and scientists learn to talk slower, louder, and use enthusiastic and expressive hand gestures to convey what they need from the CS major.

It’s so you’re fucking literate in the basics of a natural science. Why would you object to obtaining more knowledge?

College isn’t your vocational school. CS only has value as a degree with a lot of math. You learn how to write good code by yourself. You learn how to solve hard problems in class. The science is more background knowledge.

t. CS and math double major

I was a Computer Engineering major and I had to take the same classes OP did, and also some extra EE classes. I'm so happy. Even if I'm a useless brainlet, at least I know enough statistics, ODE, calculus, and statistics to learn modern physics without having to constantly regress to a simple math or physics lesson. Thank you University. I'm well rounded! I'm not a code monkey!

Right now I'm doing code monkey stuff part time, but I'm starting a job in August where I'll be doing security research. I'm also going through some physics books on my own until then. I know quantum mechanics isn't the cutting edge it used to be and it's cliche, but I've been having fun learning it. I wouldn't be able to understand most of it if it wasn't for statistics and ODE classes.

My school got a grant to run some kind of security lab. A friend of mine works there, got asked by his boss if he knew anyone good, and recommended me. It's a summer job.

I've also gotten a job on campus just replying to something on a notice board.

I assume most labs are desperate for people who can actually program instead of just poke at Matlab or Java a bit.

Can you guys just shut the fuck up with your unjustifiable, illogical CS hate? It's literally no less challenging than any other STEM field. Most of us would argue that CS is close to pure math.

But sure, let's hate CS because "durr hurr code monkeys!!!!one"
