But if you want a colder response: ever hear of the adage, "Even a broken clock is right twice a day"? If you can capitalize and coordinate what competence exists in the general public, then you can end up making systems that benefit a majority. I often contemplate the nature of a utilitarian person who's choices are decided upon infinity itself in relation to all that ever could be and is going to be. Historically the most gratified image of intelligence has been something servile and expedient, sometimes heroic, but I always wonder where oh where is the brain capable of seeing everything and then acting within the best interests to each direction belonging of sentience itself? The numerous infrastructural and institutional efficiencies that could be applied to education and our budgeting of civil engineering could be employed now, but to what effect? A lot of advancement is deliberately withheld for another time, likely after the next genocide. My predictions are to count on Russia to re-populate the science yielding Earth (it's been long enough since they've had their 'glory' so to speak; everything balances) and expect fluency in every programming language to become essential. The only thing that addresses my own suicidal vindication is to conceive of our trajectory in this form. There's still work that can be done better with this many people, and once everything salvageable has been arranged everyone can be disposed of.
