The advent of the grain cradle. This lead to increased agricultural production, which led to a merchant class, which let to idle rich NEET aristocrats that could fuck around and think and invent things.
Contrary to popular belief, there was a lot of technological development during the 'dark ages' and it had nothing to do with Christianity. It had everything to do with fuedalism as an economic system which was the direct result of the collapse of the Roman Empire.
It's like blaming a cult that rises up after a nuclear war reducing economic and technological growth and not the nuclear war.

This. Religion has usually been a motivator as it typically births a scholarly class or professions, literacy, and a propensity to document and study. Even in a more primitive form, where in some cultures there was a proper priest class that likely constituted the only literate individuals in their societies. Beyond that, historically for Christians and Muslims, understanding the world is tantamount to better understanding God. Though more so for Islam, as the Enlightenment and things like liberalism, egalitarianism, science, and such, were born in a climate of a variety of different views on God. Not really Christian. It was an emphasis on human agents using their minds to do great things. Whereas for Islam, at some points, it was espoused doctrine to investigate nature. However, Christianity is not the modern warped forms of American/British fundamentalism.

Scientific method and Popper's philosophy were used to attack marxism. That's why it gains popularity.
At the same time materialism was banished from science.

The middle east. Everyone here just doesn't want to admit while the Europe was fucking up the middle east became the place where scholars met and where they continued to develop science and math at a higher rate then anyone else.

For some reason Christians get really butt hurt about this fact. God doesn't exist so need to feel ashamed you held back society for a bit.
