Biologist and I have plenty of free time this year guys, pass me some reasons why should I study math?

why?

If you can count, that's enough.

so you do not accidentally publish an article about innovative method of calculating area under a curve by trapezoid aproximations.

You should study math to find out why you should study math.

Doesn't your major at least require calc 2 and statistics?

I'm not a math whizz so I don't really know exactly where you want to take things next; maybe calc 3 and 4 would be useful for some areas of bio if you're interested in the physical chemistry perspective

I still can't get over that this happened, it's hilarious

someone hasn't read the paper... the actual method uses RECTANGLES and TRIANGLES

For the sake of getting acquainted with the methods of said discipline - it's like if you asked us why you should study philosophy or visual arts in your free time. I won't try to persuade you if you're already well into your major, leave that task to the projecting "muh IQ" assholes here on /sci/. For a primer to actual mathematical reasoning (and not just mindless computation, which is not the point of math at all) you could check out Hammack's Book of Proof: https://www.people.vcu.edu/~rhammack/BookOfProof/

Biologists don't know jack shit about mathematics, because the field doesn't much need it outside of some poorly applied statistics.
