Do what I do! I may bitch, but I have loads of fun and learn more every semester (I took an ornithology course last semester and it made me feel like a capable biologist. Shit was so cash). Seriously, I love my major even though it's rare at my university (too many premeds that the advisers cater to). I also took an evolutionary neurobiology course that was AMAZIN'. The only reason the light transduction cascade is on the "what I got side" is because I took a cell biology course. It's all important, but that was a tough course for me because I prefer a more holistic approach. I love animals, and now I have a choice of either vet or grad school in a year. We'll see where it goes.

Anyone else heard about russian fox-farms? Their foxes supposedly started developing cannis-familiaris features just after several generations. Floppy ears were an example of that. Sounds like it could be due to chance, but then there is much better described example of wild pigs, that gain boar features.

Lol, yes, I know loads about Belyaev's foxes. Rob Lee's fox isn't domestic, though. He just hangs around and lives in the woods near the guy's house. He's OK with Rob, and in that way, he's sort of tame (huge distinction between tame and domestic).

Canids actually have a unique, unusually high slippage rate in their genome which (maybe) allows them to be domesticated and evolve faster than other lineages. It's weird stuff. This means that Belyaev's fox farm experiment may not apply time-wise to anything outside of Canidae. However, neoteny (the floppy ears, etc) is a general trend seen in domestic animals in which traits of the young are retained into adulthood (may also be true of cave dwelling animals).
