Is there a law/principle of life that states something along the lines of "most of a certain thing/information pattern is shit/low quality, and there are a very few amount of patterns that are absolutely superior? I see this pattern all the time.

Those are "popularity" rankings.
Fortran isn't terribly useful for writing smartphone apps.
