You're looking at it wrong. Yeah, if we had to be born by now we lucked out, but what makes you think we had to be born right now? What if humans will still be around for 10 million years, with even cooler shit than what we have? Then not only were we born very early and into relatively shitty conditions, but if the population keeps growing at the rate it does we're also some of the very first - like 1% - to live when 99% of humanity will live better than us.

You can't compare us only to worse things and conclude we're lucky.

The best you can argue is that we are lucky to have been now given that we don't know what the future will hold. In the future, people may look back to now and think "those people were really unlucky" and they could be right, even if we don't realize it.
