Gravity itself isn't most likely any force, mass curves the space time, and objects will always follow the "straight" path if available, but of course it doesn't appear as such to us, as we can only perceive 3 dimensions. There is no need to make up some force called gravity(of course for most uses it's perfectly fine and even physicists will talk about it normally most of the time), but we don't really know about the quantum level. Mass itself remains somewhat a mystery.
