How does this work, /sci/? The entire hour is basically the same mini melody repeating over and over. Normally this would drive me absolutely nuts. But my productivity is through the roof. I've been working on a grant proposal and I produced 2.5 pages straight in just one hour and I barely even had to stop to think. And I'm looking at it now and it's like actual quality writing that I would normally take a whole day to write. How does some new-agey bullshit like gamma and beta waves or whatever make you able to think faster?

It's all bullshit. Mostly placebo effect.
Any type of steady rithmic music can help you focus.

This. I prefer techno/trance when I concentrating on tedious work.

For comparison I struggle with terrible writer's block with technical writing even with stuff I have expert-level knowledge in. I've tried atmospheric stuff (coffee shop, rain, etc) and background music (jazz, piano, even fucking "lofi hip hop") at low volumes, and it takes me a whole hour to shit out one paragraph.

"Placebo" was actually my very first thought when I noticed how fast I was writing.
I'll give some trance a try and see how it goes.

Totally, nothing beats throwing on a Dettmann mix and crushing through the tedium.

Binaural beats just help "encourage" your brain to enter a certain frequency through the idea of resonance, but there's no proof that it works outside of placebo. Just like listening to white noise, you just put yourself in a good position to focus.

Surely not in the way advertised but:
1. Placebo
2. It covers the urge to to do others things, not necessarily limiting procrastination or habits contrary to work/study but the natural inclination for the mind to wander. It occupies it, allowing room for focus.

For me, any simple rhythmic sound or natural sounds, helps alleviate that inclination.

It's a tend for the brain to follow an induced frequency that it normally operates at.

"Brainwave Entrainment"

fascinating study.
