I'm a centrist as well, so here goes my own anecdote:
When I debate conservatives, they deny factual evidence and claim it's part of some grand scheme, like the atheists libruls tryin' to ruin dis here country wit der climate science, and they try to deny logical conclusions from facts by trying to shift the argument to some other issue that they think I might disagree with them on.
When I debate with liberals, say on Abortion, they usually admit that it's immoral and obviously killing after about 3 minutes of arguing but just claim it's a matter of personal choice.

Liberals aren't anti-science, they're just morally inconsistent. Conservatives actively believe shit that isn't the truth regardless of how much evidence goes against it.

"Scientific facts" refers to the predictive models which we use to approximate reality. While the models do indeed -correspond to reality- more or less so, which is something we can assess through experiment, the models in themselves are 1) constructed 2) by society.
People will hear the phrase "social construct" once and immediately jump to this ridiculous "oh, so you think science is purely a matter of opinion and reality isn't real" strawman.
The point is to look past a naive picture of "common sense" and bear in mind that the systems we use to discover scientific truth are products of their environment and subject to corrupting influence by that environment. That, yes, there are competing paradigms for "doing science," and we've shifted through several over the years (induction vs falsifiability.) The "science" of the 18th century has radically different intellectual foundations/underpinnings than the science of today. Let alone that "science is science, and it's some transcendental way of knowing prior to and independent from the society it exists within" is contradicted by things like lysenkoism
