Is it too late to pursue a mathematics degree at 26? My education is paid for at least.

Never too late but depends on intention.

Would it be to pursue a math related career or research? Or would it be for self fulfillment and general thirst for knowledge. I’d just wanting to learn for the fun of it then there’s no need for the degree. You’d learn more studying and researching on your own than having some potential halfwit spew equations at you.

You're sitting on 4chan. That means you'll not become a tenured mathematician and will not have a career in pure mathematics. Even if you spent every waking hour doing maths you will not outsmart the 1% or so of mathematicians who actually can get somewhere in pure math because they're immensely talented and have been born into a rich family with parents in academia and people who taught them higher maths from their very childhood.. There are just not enough opportunities in the world for pure mathematicians. Odds are you will become a codemonkey and will end up working as a pay and thought slave for some bigcorp doing "applied" math.

No, its just because I've inexpllicably become fascinated with math. I'd like to capitalize on this genuine interest. But right now I have no degree and a friend told me a math degree provides great flexibility in terms of career.

Lol.
Maybe you should stop projecting and finally kill yourself if that's how inadequate you feel.

Id agree with your friend and it’s a worthy purisuit then if the passion is not just a fleeting feeling.

Im fascinated with math also
I want to understand golden ratio
I make music instead
Because it's fun

I'm 29 and switching from CS to Math. I don't feel like it's too late. If anything I have more self-discipline and better study habits than I did when I was ~22.

According to the wiki slowpoke can evolve at level 37. Therefore you should be fine.

when you say you're interested in math what about it appeals to you? you should know there is substantial difference between math up to calculus/linear algebra/diffeqs and what comes after (analysis, topology, modern algebra). if you're interested in the former than you would be a lot better off studying physics or engineering.

My father went back to college at 40 and got his degree in electrical engineering.

Definitely possible, but he said it was a lot harder to learn than it used to be (probably not applicable in your case since you are so young).

>mfw my undergrad school paid assistant professors who attended group III PhD programs to teach every undergraduate math class imaginable
>mfw I will be starting as an assistant professor this fall after I graduate from my group III PhD program.
>mfw there are cunts out there who contemplate suicide at the prospect of not teaching/researching at an ivy/MIT/Caltech
>mfw they tell me academic jobs in math are nonexistent
fucking retarded undergraduates, desu. don't listen to these cucks, they are brainlets who blame their shortcomings on their family and peers.

24 and same situation except I have a shit poor family and I want to get a degree in physics or something related as I've recently discovered how fulfilling it is to do research and self learn after getting in an accident and being forced to move back in with my parents.

It's too late to pursue a maths degree at 18. There are fucking 12 yo seventh graders in my courses.

Now that's stupid. I could see if we were talking about the Harvard math department but there's going to be some d-list university that will take an adult student.

anything past 16 is too late to pursue high education to be honest
the brain is no longer plastic enough

Because it's taught terribly at my school and I still have the same job prospects with a B.S. in math.
