Its true.

Theres a study that estimates that the biosphere has enough mineral nutrients to grow food for 1 billion people.

In other words, just using the fields and forests could only support 1 billion mouths.

With fertilizers made by mining minerals and synthesis from petrochemicals, theres about 6 billion people who regularly get enough nutrition.

So, thats something like 5 billion mouth being fed with "artificial" nutrients

Carbon dioxide is the least of climate change problems.

The main culprit is Methane.

Methane is generated by cows, mostly - and humans.

Methane is roughly 23x times more effective greenhouse gas (b.w.) than CO2.

Unless the chinese, brazilians, europeans and US stop eating meat, landfill dumping organic waste, and start sequestering methane from animal and human manure...

...we will be done by 2035 or so.

US is already experiencing the changing weather patterns bringing on extreme drought.

>The main culprit is Methane.

Not really.

Methane breaks down into CO2 fairly quickly. CO2 is the main one.

There's only a limited amount of phosphorous, but we could feed 6 billion indefinitely -- if we used resources wisely and recycled the atoms.
Just because we had to dig up or convert phosphates doesn't mean it's "un-natural".

However, even with the best practices, we will hit some limit or other at some point. Population cannot grow indefinitely even under the rosiest of scenarios. Therefore, population WILL stabilize or decrease. The question is how fast will it change and what will be the endpoint? Famine, disease, war, or birth-control. Only alternatives I can think of offhand. Which would you prefer?

(And please don't suggest "let's just kill everyone who doesn't look or think like me." Practically speaking, that means war -- likely nuclear war. Even the "winners" aren't going to be in any condition to maintain anything near their current populations.)

No, but you wrote "artificial", as if that made a difference.
Like some people demand "natural" vitamin C rather than what comes from a test tube.

Manufacturing fertilizer from phosphate rock can only be a temporary measure. If it's recycled, the increased amount can be used indefinitely to feed more people than could have been sustained on just guano and nightsoil.

Give me a metric by which it isnt lmao, just to name a few where American influence is fucked : cultural decay and division, social decay and division, reduced global influence and critically reputation, corrupted financial institutions, corrupted political staff, faulty political system, corrupted health and welfare systems, lack of education in the electorate, resurgent isolationist ideas, confused national identity, an economy that has an uncertain future, mismanaged public spending, weak anti trust laws, etc the list goes on and on. America really only has what it had originally going for it re a massive industrial base, large natural resource deposits, geographically advantageous position, and the vague hope that the best parts of the American spirit (opportunity, liberty, equality) are still smoldering in at least a small percentage of them.

You consume less of those resources, which you can do it at any moment.
If by resources you mean food, some people will die where that happens.
Actually it's happening right now in africa, and it will only get worse because their population is still growing fast.
Outside of africa nothing extreme should happen.

It´s the most fair and long-lived political system ever conceived.
> corrupted health and welfare systems
Be more precise. How exactly are the health and welfare systems any more "corrupted" than those of any other country?

What is that supposed to mean?
>an economy that has an uncertain future
The whole of the western world relies on American influence and military power. A chink/indian takeover of the world notwithstanding, the American economy will continue to grow.
> mismanaged public spending
No more mismanaged than it is in any other country.
> America really only has what it had originally going for it re a massive industrial base, large natural resource deposits, geographically advantageous position, and the vague hope that the best parts of the American spirit (opportunity, liberty, equality) are still smoldering in at least a small percentage of them.

Here´s something for you to ponder: no other country respects individual liberty and the concepts held dear by enlightenment-era philosophers. Freedom of speech, the right to bear arms and numerous other fundamental parts of a free civilized society are unique to America.

Most people, including Europeans, still live in societies built around medieval political philosophy.
