To measure the distance of the distance of the sun you'd have to turn it off, then on again, and time how long it'd take for the light to get here, but this also assumes light actually has a speed.

If it's orbiting the galaxy at 500,000+ then the movements of the stars would not be as stable as they are. Parallax cannot explain it because of all of the other supposed movements that the earth is making too.

I hope you are baiting. Otherwise you are profoundly retarded.
You have no sense of dimensions. On the galactic scale, 500000mph is a slow speed. The angular velocity relative to the center of the galaxy is of less than 2x10^-6 degrees per year.
It takes the Sun more than 200 million years to complete one orbit around the Galaxy.
Do you understand that? Of course you don't.

That's about right.
Tidal forces are stealing angular momentum from the Earth's spin and pushing the Moon outwards. But it won't continue indefinitely. Someday the Earth will become tide-locked as the Moon is today. Each will permanently face the other as Pluto and Charon do.
Then the Solar tide (which is weaker than the Lunar one) will steal angular momentum from the Earth-Moon system and the Moon will begin creeping closer again. This will take a very long time. I forget if the Moon will reach the Roche Limit and break up before the Sun expands and engulfs us both.

All we have to do is measure the Earth s curvature

>You have no sense of dimensions. On the galactic scale, 500000mph is a slow speed. The angular velocity relative to the center of the galaxy is of less than 2x10^-6 degrees per year.It takes the Sun more than 200 million years to complete one orbit around the Galaxy.

Why is the Earth flat and the Moon and Sun isn't?

If the Moon orbits above the Earth, do you have photographs of the underside of the Moon?

We have the scientific method, please explain it to me with it.

That post is quite accurate.
Perhaps you are the brainlet here.

Third video conveniently overlooks the fact that euclidean geometry crashes and burns when measuring long distances across the surface of the earth. We have to use elliptical geometry for the equations to work correctly, which only works for shapes on a round surface.

You can calculate how far away the sun is just by using the period of Earths orbit you moron. If you don’t believe the equation is right you can measure the distance and orbital period of nearby planets to check your work. God damn this board needs a calculus captcha. Please mods! Save us from these brainlets!

Here's the deal: there are three types of Flat Earthers who regularly post to 4Chan: prankster intellectuals who troll to test your knowledge and debate skills, literal Bible interpreters, and most recently and proliferately: the juvenile-level troller. None of them provide any evidence of phenomena that require a flat Earth model to explain, but rather place the onus on you to prove the round Earth (again, and again, and again, ...). Their only recourse is to disavow any science or proofs put forward.

Trolls are easily identified by the memes that ostensibly 'prove' a round Earth is false, but contain geometry, maths, logic, and facts so absurdly wrong that you are compelled to display your superior intelligence and knowledge. By responding, you've taken the bait. Your posts (reasoned or prefereably emotional) are met with insulting or provocative responses. If you reference web-based information (that they could have looked up if they were interested) they will accuse you of being a shill for some absurd conspiracy.

They actually have no interest in the concept of a flat or a round Earth whatsoever. It's all about the lulz from getting you to respond. It is simply impossible to keep up with having to explain away the barrage of stupid posts, as the anonymous nature of 4Chan makes irresponsibility a tool of the prankster. Arguing is akin to painting over mud - you just end up with a dirty brush.

I feel like /sci/ attracts both the smartest and dumbest of anons. There’s probably a higher concentration of grad students here than anywhere else on the site, but somehow /sci/ attracts flat-Earthers and climate-change denialists just as well.

People say that /tv/ is the most badly managed board on the site, but I’m sure that if /sci/ had the same population the board would be practically unreadable.

Are you stupid? The context is fucking FLAT EARTH. What's really hilarious is the fact that only 3 photos and a few half ass sentences is all that's needed to debunk flat earth.
