Ive never heard of this theorem before so I tried to approach it in a different way that i thought was easier for me, and that was by connecting lines with dots.

So basically i figured to disprove the theorem, 5 colors are needed obviously, so i put five dots.

Next, because we use five colors, each color must "touch" or be adjacent to each of the 4 other colors at least once in a plane to disprove the theorem. (if a color didnt touch each 4 other colors at least once, then 5 colors are not needed, proving the theorem)--> this "touching" can be represented by connecting lines to each dots. Each dot has to be connected to 4 other dots, but the lines cannot cross.

Obviously after trying for some time i found connecting five dots without intersecting lines is impossible, and so i figured the color theorem has to be true. I dont know the math behind why, but it is.

Just thought this was an interesting take on it, and if ya do google search you can see more lines and dots but still with 4 colors.

TL;DR still dont know why its true, but its true

you're breaking contiguity by approaching it that way
look at how you have three or more edges coming into each point, if you drew it as a proper planar map those areas would be point adjacent and therefore not contiguous and you would be able to color it with 4 colors

my point exactly tho what im showing is trying to disprove the theorem in another way, and because this other way is impossible, the theorem will always be true, like 2+2=4.
>>9381038
five different colors because at least 5 colors are needed to disprove the theorem, which as shown is impossible.

That is untrue, per the original pharasing of the problem. Consequently my counterexample holds good.

What you mean to refer to is the smaller, qualified case of "nuh-uh but etc etc", in which case my counterexample can only then be rejected.

I am a color brainlet so i keep trying but I'm mostly doing it for the fun designs its forcing me to try to figure out. I end up creating one where the solution takes more than a couple minutes to figure and then i get really excited and post it, followed almost immediately by then finding the solution. I'm a puzzle master at best. Goddamn its so easy to manipulate a single color and force it to be used though so it just seems like something on the tip of your tongue that it'd be easy to force a situation where a 5th color would be needed.

non-bait question, what is the number of color needed for n-dimension ? Is there a formula ?

make the orange and red dot the same color
And yes. You are essentially looking at the graph representation of the same problem. It's related to the fact that you can't connect the orange and red without intersecting another line.
