Hey /sci/ what are rocky meteors made of? On Earth we have sandstones, limestones, granites, gneiss, and so on. What are rocky meteors?

Obviously none of those things because they're from weathering and volcanism and so on which doesn't exist in space.

Silicates. olivine and pyroxene.
Obviously, no limestone or sandstone or chalk since they're products of water and life.

Nigga you dont even know your sedimentary from your igneous

Rocky meteors are made of whatever kind of minerals that are present in the meteor. They are all igneous though. So basically what >>9362583 said

My ex was a geologist, I used to bully her about staring at rocks, should I stare at rocks?

Dont stare for too long or you too will want to become a geologist

Rocks seem boring to the uninitiated but can actually some of the most complicated and interesting things on the planet (and off)

Once you get past the “its just a rock lol” phase and open your eyes you will want to close them again because of how fucking complicated geology can get.

Also the most consitently bro-tier science. 90% of my professors have been awesome people unlike my experiences with most other subjects.

It's the chemistry that gets me horny, anon. Is that normal?

If thats your jive then yup
Plenty of geology people love the chemistry part.

Personaly i like geophysics and structural geology but thats just what makes geology so great: theres so many different specialties and subsciences that combine the more quantatative sciences like chemistry, physics, and math. (And bio too)

Geoscience is great if you want to apply another or multiple sciences to the real world and study from that perspective

I like the chemistry part because I like climate change and stuff but honestly structural geology is more intuitive
t.ive only taken geo 101

Well in that case, what're some good resources?

I have yet to find a good video lecture series for geology but you can learn a lot by exploring geology.com and wikipedia

Geology.com has a lot of good intro pages to get you started and wikipedia has plenty of info for you to get lost on tangeants and find out gritty details.

If a concept doesnt make sense, just google it cause there is likely a school wepage somewhere that explains it in simpler terms with pictures.

Also dont get scared off by words you dont understand, half of what i do at uni is google words in research articles to figure out what the heck they are talking about.

Thank you, anon, most useful.
