Why do people actually believe these things?

>"if you don't raise taxes and use carbon credits humans won't be able to live on Earth in 10 years, even though the numbers we fudged imply it's too late to do anything about it anyway!"

Why do people actually believe these things?

Are they literally retarded ?

This. Science hasn't made things better, just more worse with more LEDs.

Because people are bored and like to imagine shit in order to spice up their lives. Some do it for money (especially in movie-making and book writing) while others like to blow hot wind out their ass in order to get popular and maybe win a grant from big daddy gov't. I can see why people believe 2 and 3, but 1 is mildly stupid and varies from person to person. Some think that cyberpunk means the "down-and-dirty, robot bartenders, plugging the brain into some pseudo cyber-space, etc" while others think that scanning a barcode from a phone is a pretty neat trick. Most likely bored and just want to live like their sci-fi film/book characters.

Because they've never really taken a close look at the current state of AI and the concepts behind it. Though dated, Hoffstadter's Goedel, Escher, Bach is recommended reading for those unfamiliar with AI beyond the I Fucking Love Science facebook memes.

Science allows overpopulation. Although I don't really care; I'd rather go extinct with science than survive without it.

Because we literally live in the beginning of this era.

The internet was the key. In 10-15 years, we will have strong AI.

The people (we) who grow up with manga, Stargate, Star Trek will be in charge.

For us, AI, Space colony, cyborg, etc. are normal.

It's the first step. We must want this world and we must fight for.

You're right to some extent but mostly retarded because at this point it is entirely a fact that the earth atmosphere and therefore earth itself is warming due to greenhouse gas emissions. Warming of even half a degree centigrade is known to accelerate offshore winds significantly enough to fuck up trade winds and thus ocean currents
