Yes, he is an engineer, and doesn't have the education for everything, so you shouldn't expect him to know everything. He had a staff to research things, and write episodes, and he would do things or introduce segments on a children's show. If you cannot explain something simply, you just don't understand it. Him giving flip answers to Redditors is because he doesn't understand most things, but still wants to be the hip guy that they grew up with.

Bill Nye is a populist, that has taken the populist road. It means that he will agree to those he wishes to curry favor with, whether or not it makes sense. He has installed and torn out solar and water reclamation systems in order to have the most current and most efficient one, even if it was a total wast to do so.

Let's look at how society looks at body dysmorphic disorder, and how society looks upon them. We have three men, all around the same age and backgrounds:

First of all, protons and electrons don’t annihilate each other, nor can they break apart. So even if they did collide, it wouldn’t do much.

But more to your point, a good way to think about this is using the uncertainty principle, specifically the coupling of position and momentum. If an electron were to start falling into the nucleus, it’s position would start to be very well defined, thus making its momentum very undefined, meaning it would just move right out of the nucleus again. You can also think of it as the electron being larger due to its smaller size, therefore not being able to fit into the nucleus.

Obviously both of these explanations are only visualizations, don’t assign too much importance to them. There are more things going on there of course, but I’m really no expert on the intricacies of this

So instead of a single electron orbiting the proton all neatly, instead we have a cloud of where the electron is most likely to be found around the nucleus of an atom (see pic related). The electron is capable of being on the other side of the universe for an instance, or inside the nucleaus for an isntance, but the probability is so low that it's considered very very very very very unlikely.
