Does the Pomodoro technique actually work or is it just a meme? Is breaking your concentration every 25 minutes worth the benefits of taking regularly scheduled breaks?

Why don't you try it and find out?

It's a good starting point. If you can work up to doing 30 minutes uninterrupted, good, and continue incrementally as appropriate. I got capped at 4 hours personally and was astounded with my increase in productivity

I think it's where you count down from 5 and then force yourself to do whatever it is you're supposed to do

If you drop your pomodoro, you have to pick it up within 5 seconds or else terrible things will happen

I swear by it when I absolutely have to get something done, it was the only way I was ever able to focus as a chronic procrastinator in college. Knowing that there was always a break coming takes away the decision of stopping and of when to start back up again. It's like when working out if you set your reps you'll try harder to meet the number whereas if you just did as many as you felt like you would normally stop short.

Another tip every decision you have to make takes away from your productive energy, try to minimize what you have to decide on when working as much as possible. So commit before you start
>I'll do x for 3 periods then switch to y etc
Likewise try to take away the active decision to work or not, focus on forming systems of work/study with the aim of turning them into habits. As an example set a system to say work on -something- every workday at a certain time. Study yourself to figure out what works or not, constantly be evaluating your systems and if you aren't getting good results then you need to try something different.
