I always just assumed common core was pemdos related

It turns out that's how I visualized difference in subtraction already

I think of it on a Cartesian coordinates plot, subtraction is always just the distance between two points negative or positive. I think it's there to remove confusion and extra thought processes of subtracting negative and positive numbers

At my school (mediocre big state university) the only difference between BA and BS is the BA required a lot of arts-related gen eds while the BS required a lot of science-related gen eds. That was in addition to all the gen eds everyone had to take no matter what they were getting (a little English, a little history, a little math, a little biology and physical science, speech).

Kinda same, but for a question 32-12 I would just deduct the 2 first and then the 10, or the 10 then the 2.
Doing five steps of addition doesn't really make sense and neither does doing three steps of subtracting 100.

I can kinda understand teaching them to work this in their heads but I don't really see the point of chopping it down into so many steps when you have big round numbers you can use. If they can subtract 100 then they can subtract 300 in one go. Adding more steps just increases the likelihood they'll make a mistake.

Honestly? I've been tempted to ask our local pastor what he thinks and just how much of the scriptures he takes as "God's truth" or whatever. I'm genuinely curious if he fully believes that the book is something more than stories made by primitive people who didn't know anything about the world around them.

WELL IT'S A PRETTY SHIT METAPHOR THEN, really just beating a strawman at that point.
I'm pretty damn feminist (and there's certainly a lot of sexism in the history of the hard sciences) but damn, Irigaray needs to learn the first thing about a field before she starts expounding on it.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewers head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenevs Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

I personally separate my life to pre-Rick and Morty and post-Rick and Morty periods, as watching it has completely changed how I view the world. It taught me to appreciate life much more (or rather in a different way) than I used to and also be more honest with myself. It may have a similar effect on you, or it may do nothing if it’s not your kind of thing, but one thing is clear — you’ve got to watch it even if it’s the last thing you do

The thing is science, while practical, has limits.
People don't live their lives guided entirely by science, and doing so is kind of depressing.
Thinking of love as a reproductive function, thinking of social associations as being evolutionary advantages, doing things only because 'logic says so' is not how people usually roll.
I say this as a broken robot.. there is some beauty in irrationality. We all hold irrational beliefs. If someone thinks a rock 'grounds' them, then fucking good for them. It's a belief that may help them cope with the daily chaos.

I've seen BAs in STEM related fields but all of it was diluted, watered down HS tier "science".
In the end BA will always be for brainlets who think science is magic and everything else is "art"

That's different, the degree is called a BA for historical reasons (all Bachelor's level degrees there are BAs) and this does not reflect the content of the course.

the problem is 32 - 12, so the way they're doing is adding numbers to 12 until it equals 32

First they add 3 to make it 15 so they can add 5, since adding 5 to most numbers that are a multiple of 5 is fairly easy
Then they add 5 to make it a nice even 20 so they can start increasing it by 10s, since adding 10 to multiples of 10 is pretty easy
Then they add 10 to get to 30, which is the same number of 10s as 32.
Then they add 2 to get 32.

I guess if it was like 325 - 12 it would be as follows:
12 + 3 = 15
15 + 10 = 25
25 + 300 = 325

3 + 10 + 300 = 313
I honestly don't know though

in some cases it is a simpler conscious process to take whole/round numbers in the 10-base system then it is to work with odd/weird numbers

sometimes it isn't, but it is definitely more relevant to teach children this way (parsing the system and being able to do things in multiple ways) especially in places where they have literally no exposure to numbers as home

Why must autists always brag about how smart they are? Even ignoring the fact that in nearly all cases they are grossly overstating their intelligence there is virtually no setting in which it is socially acceptable to say that kind of shit. We all know you didn't build a fusion reactor/quantum computer in your basement. Nobody cares that you made 64-bit CPU in minecraft. Nobody cares how smart you are. Normies don't and actual academics and employers sure as shit don't. Circlejerking about your intelligence is a great way to alienate whatever friends you happen to have and to be rejected from a job. Whatever happened to being humble?

I just don't understand why more people don't call these autists out. Maybe they're afraid of getting shot or something which is probably fair these days.

It's a spectrum, by definition 'everyone' is on 'a' spectrum. If Autism is 'prime' spectrum that all humans share, then 'you' must be too.

People don't want to call out the 'special cases/error messages' for fear of being mislabeled one themselves.

Wtf is this garbage? Doing the "Old fashion" way, right to left, is clearly superior to spitting out a bunch of arbitrary, irrelevant equations and extracting numbers from them. The whole premise of the "New" way is fucked if you decided that 10+5=15 is also viable, which it is.

Dammit, just had a "this is a cringe thread, you dumbfuck" moment.
