>UNSW Sydney scientists have discovered the purpose of a famous 3700-year old Babylonian clay tablet, revealing it is the world’s oldest and most accurate trigonometric table, most likely used by ancient mathematical scribes to calculate how to construct palaces, temples and stepped pyramids.

I love shit like this. It makes you wonder what else has been lost forever and what is still to find just in dusty drawers somewhere.

Jeez it's so fucked up that civilizations master mathematics but were still stuck with primitive tools. In a way I guess maybe we are stupid for not dumping our civilizations knowledge onto some sort of material that isn't paper or digital-something.

Electricity really changed everything didn't it?

I'm convinced electricity is basically just our world's version of magic.

I guess it depends on the era you live in.
In the 17th it was canon powder.
In the dark ages : iron (or copper and gold) and how to forge it.

Yep I'm thinking that the purpose of carving everything in stone was to have a more permanent record.

It's not carved in stone. It's clay imprinted with a tool. Something very common in history.

That is interesting and typically magic is transmitted through or from the body of the user so might not fit many definitions.

What you refer to magic is really a phenomenon which occurs when matter is placed in an EM field.

Which could very well be thought of as magic.

There could be entire civilizations lost to time that we will never even know a hint about. Alexandria was a real bad loss. It makes me wonder what the Vatican has hidden in their library that may never see the light of day.
