What's the relationship between religiosity and IQ?
Lots of popsci says atheists are smarter but it's always a small linear trend at state/nation level.
I've seen the 'atheist IQ island' concept a couple of times in pop culture: stupid uneducated hillbillies are all religious, midrange IQ college CS majors are all atheists, but the ultra-genius polymath types trend religious again.
Is the island real? Any good or even bad data on it?

You'll probably see less religious people as the IQ gets higher, and then the exceptionally-high IQ weirdos are probably religious.

Why do you care? Do you think it validates your beliefs if more people of high IQ agree with you? That not any better than siding with the most popular beliefs because they are popular.

I would expect little to no correlation since people tend to believe in religion because of deep seeded emotional experiences or cultural upbringings, and also because IQ is a garbage measure of intelligence anyways.

What the fuck is that? Very intelligent people aren't theist. See all the great scientist who were massacred by catholics in the Middle Age and Renaissance or Stephen Hawkins etc today. Einstein pretended to be theist to be more accepted by the populace.

Because the nobel prize was established in 1895.

And until maybe the last 10-20 years it was a literal political death sentence to be atheist (and it still is in many countries). To the point where you would get absolutely no or little funding if you were anything but theist. And at the end of the day getting the amount of funding required to do research in depth enough to merit a nobel prize is 90% politics (specifically the funding).

So of course most would call themselves theists, because we live in a society which almost always requires being theist to get anywhere in life in terms of funding on a large scale.

And look at Sweden specifically. The freedom of religion was not established until 1951, making it literally social and legal suicide to be atheist. And those who were born in that era still are alive and put on religious pressure. Ffs they had a state church until 2000. And all the people who decide on the prize were raised by parents who legally had to be theist.

TL;DR the pressure to be religious both in general society and specifically of those who hand out the nobel prize readily and currently exists. These societal pressures place a much larger role on individuals then what they believe privately.

2:1 odds the greatest minds of the past century are Christian vs non-Christian.

My guess is religiosity is very slightly higher among geniuses, because they tend to be overconfident in their beliefs due to never losing an argument to anyone in their life. But IQ and religiosity are inversely correlated as far up the bell curve as has been measured.

There are a fuckton of retarded atheists, just see >>9037520.

The more vocal an anti-theist they are, the more retarded they tend to be.

Poor people/people pre-1900: Don't have access to TV, Internet, or other distractions meaning they don't have much to spend their free time on besides thinking about religion -> high religiosity and low IQ (from lack of exercising their brains on other things)

Normies: Spend all their time on facebook and never look into religion or anything else for that matter. Repost memes like 'religion is dumb' and 'lel sky magik' to justify their choice even though they know nothing about what they are shitting on.

Smart people: Intellectually honest and study religions and their history with an open mind. Eventually they come to a conclusion if they are convinced by one and become religious. Though this happens only if they are interested in religion, in history, or it's effects on culture, politics, literature and the like. Otherwise they study other things and end up like the normies with shallow opinions.

/reddit/atheists: Eternally butthurt about being dragged to church as a kid and will never shut up about it. Furiously circle jerk supremacy from it because >>>/reddit/.
