Science has become a commercial enterprise like so much more things on earth. When there is no financial motivation, progress slows down a lot. What can we do to counter this?

>What can we do to counter this?
Nothing.
The experiments that were serious business 200 years ago can be now replicated in middle school science class.
Today's serious business needs millions, sometimes hundreds of millions in funding.
So you better woo those investors or you can rope yourself.

but how? For example, colonizing mars would not bring in any profits for the first 2oo years or so.

Sell reserved patches of land on Mars for your great grandchildren.

>> No.8969590

what i tought about was creating some sort of american wild west, but in space. Allowing private companies almost free reign and taxing them would secure a constant inflow of money to the state wich could be used to maintain "space police" and for researching new stuff. Just imagine how much money could be made RIGHT NOW by selling mars Land to people

colonizing Mars is not science. I'd even argue that it's detrimental to science. Putting humans on mars may make it impossible to determine if there is life on Mars due to contamination.

If the problem is no financial motivation... Then create financial motivation by monetizing the research at hand. Can't monetize the research? Either you're not creative enough (probably the case) or the research is truly and literally worthless. "research takes time and can't be monetized!!" there's this thing called investments which works for everything but research, or so some not so economically bright researches in self denial seem to think.

Couldn't that method in the picture be used to colonize other planets? I mean, imagine that you put embryos of humans into those things, or even just very simple life forms. If it is possible to launch so many of those, you could shoot them at as many planets and moons you can think of and eventually life would flourish.
Could life on Earth be a result of this being done by a civilization a few billion years older than us?
