Why don't people talk about this time period that much? Seems like they just skip to the Eocene?

We didn't talk about the Paleocene at my school because there were no Paleocene-aged deposits in the area--Late Cretaceous - Oligocene unconformity.
Are you a paleo guy OP? I'm not myself, but I did my undergraduate in the middle of the NE/SD/WY badlands. We had a whole undergrad course on the Cenozoic mammals of the area.

How does that happen? Did they get beamed into space or replaced with new crust and slid under another?
