That's the complete opposite of field purity. Field purity is how abstract the discipline is. Again, you're conflating field purity with quality. Field purity doesn't mean the field is great. It means it's less involved in implementation details and more of an abstract thing in itself. Mathematics is extremely pure because it abstracts away all real world specific details. Engineering is extremely impure because it deals extensively with real world specific details.

Philosophy is very broad. And logic is most certainly an area encompassed, utilized, manipulated, and scrutinized by philosophy. The scientific method is itself an application of epistemology.

Formal logic within philosophy is intensely rigorous. And while it varies from school to school typically formal logic classes within the philosophy department are comperable to logic classes within the math department. Saying that philosophy is not logic is a bit like saying physics isn't math. Sure they aren't technically the same thing, but it's difficult to say anything of use about the former without the latter.

This often gets quite complex and recursive within philosophy due to philosophy analyzing the same logic used to analyze it so it's not quite a fair comparison, but I think you get the point.
