It's pretty much the same guy in every thread that posts the same images / same conspiracies every time. Climate science is actually interesting to discuss though, and there's constantly new studies / news to discuss so it's a shame we can't have decent threads about it.

>> No.8658182

Well I have to say we all need to look at the catalog. It's a fucking mess, let me tell you.
To many people asking stupid questions out of their specific thread and a lot of non related topics including /pol/ stuff or even borderline autistic /r9k/ stuff. Some questions only require a visit to the library or a google search, and there are too many undergrads bragging bout their field.

To be honest I could do something for the board and make good threads, but I'm too busy studying. I just come here every other day to lurk and see if there is anything interesting.

Make /sci/ great again in 3 points:

1. Allow embedded pdf, to share scientific publications. I can't wait for science sharethreads.

2. Create sticky with attached reviews about race, human diversity, intelligence, climate and global warming.

3. Don't ban the troll threads and memes about maths. They are funny.

4. Get James D. Watson to do an AMA.

5. Try to attract more biologists and medical fields

>> No.8658218

/sci/, /lit/, /hist/, etc should have "curators" who can append messages to other posts, sort of like janitors but with the ability to "edit" (not really, just add information to) posts

I think this board needs less /pol/ spillover and baitposting in general. I like math and science humor (pic related) but ironically/unironically baiting/shilling is getting very old and is taking up way too much board space

This fascinates me too. I always thought human memory is like a hash table. You couldn't list every book and magazine you've ever read, but if asked you if you've read [book] before you'd know right away. We need the key otherwise it takes a long time.

Nope, I've seen them get flat out deleted.

>That I find even worse, as the board seems to be so overrun by shitposters

Absolutely. It feels like in last year /sci/ has turned into /b/ tier posting.

A lot of boards feel that way because /b/ has gone to shit and their cancer is spreading to other boards.

Mods and Jannies need to enforce the rules, and users of boards need to report posts/threads that vioate the rules.

Anecdotal evidence, at best. I have not seen threads be deleted in the last half year and I always scour the lower end of the catalogue (I sort by number of replies), because of the aforementioned tendency for bigger threads to be full of shitters

Putnam was banned? I rarely come here, but it was enjoyable to read people solving them and sometimes trying to crack one myself. And then I come here one day and they're gone.

Reporting doesn't help because these climate threads aren't really breaking the rules. We need to change the rules and I'll happily report every shit thread I see.

>> No.8660653

Isn't /sci/ meant to have rules. It's like it isn't moderated at all.

How difficult would this be to implement anyway?

Hiragana/kanji captchas on /a/ and /jp/ would also be nice.

hopefully this wont be the case. anything over single integrals of the simple indefinite form will deter all posters equally.
the reason: it is faster to just do it in wolfram
