Can anyone recommend some books they have read or are reading concerning memorization techniques? I would really like some different perspectives on how to improve my memory, since I feel like I have underestimated the benefits of thoroughly memorizing things to ultimately understand them. Much appreciated!

This book is pretty good. I picked it up because the title made it sound like some silly mystical shit like The Secret that would be good for a laugh but it's actually just sound practical advice, including memorization techniques.

This is the 1961 cover btw, can find a newer edition but it has a much gayer cover.
