Does anyone else get study burnouts? I wish I were a machine, I'm being constricted by my psychological limitations. I want to fucking hang myself.

Anyways, here's greentext of my STEM fuckup
>Going ham before major exams
>Study literally 8 hours a day, living on instant ramen
>7 days in my mind just goes blank and can't absorb shit
>My willpower takes a huge deep, then I waste 2 days surfing the internet, shitposting with extreme guilt, questioning why I'm doing what I'm doing.
>Go to the library
>See people working
>Gets even more depressed
>after about 2 days, cycle repeats, my mind goes fresh and I go ham again.
Fucking if I can work through this shit I would've done way better in the exams.

>Inb4 Adderall
Anyways, you can share your fuckups, and perhaps even help each other out.

Studying = Highly intensely using your brain for 8 hours straight, and you have to force yourself to do it. No one making sure you do your shit.
Working = Don't matter if you focus or not, as long as you get your shit done, good or bad, you still get paycheck.
The mental strain is much different in both cases

>> No.8414079

Why don't you take some responsibility instead of being a whinging crybaby and blaming everything else?

I can already tell from your post that your "psychological limitations" are entirely your own fault and could most likely be easily avoided.

First of all:
>living on ramen
Great idea, because a good diet isn't essential to brain power or anything. Ever heard of the term you are what you eat? It's true, and your brain is cheap noodles. Treat your body right with exercise and a good diet so you can function at your best.

Also if you unfuck your shit and are still struggling I don't see why you'd be opposed to Adderall. Even try something like Modafinil and experiment with supplements if you truly want to be a machine.

Try solving mathematics problem sums for 8 hours, your brain is constantly solving problems, not absorbing information. The former actually works your brain and not some bullshit you think is hard. >Studying
>Highly intensely using your brain for 8 hours straight
This is what that first anon meant by structure. Nobody is telling you to do this for 8 hours straight and based on what you wrote in the OP it's doing you more harm than good.
>and you have to force yourself to do it. No one making sure you do your shit.
You have to force yourself to do every single action in your life. If you don't enjoy studying, don't do it. Simple as that

>Working
>Don't matter if you focus or not
Maybe if you work in a McDonalds, but most real jobs take some actual focus.
>as long as you get your shit done, good or bad, you still get paycheck.
That's not even true unless you actually work in McDonalds. Maybe it's people like you with that shit mindset that cause an association of fast food with horrible quality.

The more work you put in the higher the payoff. It's the same thing with studying. You're stressing yourself out by assuming studying is more mentally demanding when it really isn't. Start treating studying as a job or you will fail. You are paying to learn this shit. Stop wasting your own money or stop complaining.

>> No.8414163

>>8414155
Yes I'm paying to learn this. That's why I need to make my money's worth and make sure I do the best that I can, if possible better than my best. It's gotta be perfect, something that I may not be able to produce in my job.

There are challenging problems in pretty much any scientific field. Undergrad is a meme, it's not real life. Sure, an undergraduate degree in biology might require fewer man-hours than one in pure mathematics, but a gifted student will supplement their studies with material that satisfies them and will go on to solve actually challenging stuff in their PhD studies. Obviously /sci/ is gonna try to convince you that what's important is doing a hard major but that's because they're all undergrads. Only a fool would take their advice to heart.>>8414145

>It's gotta be perfect, something that I may not be able to produce in my job.
If you can't produce when you're getting paid to produce, why would you be able to produce when you aren't being paid for it? Like I said, treat studying like it's your job. If you treat your job like a joke, well then you deserve to fail.

The only profession I know with the job equal to the intensity of the studies is a medical doctor.

>> No.8414215

Do doctors really need to think that much though? They just use the stuff they've memorized along with the experience they've gained through the years to diagnose diseases. Very different from studying, say, highly abstract mathematics.

>in Academics, when you have to literally get everything down perfect.
Nobody ever said this. If you're a perfectionist, at least be a perfectionist in your business rather than being selfish with your perfectionism and only reaping the rewards for yourself.

>That's a great cut in intensity.
Either the job you are working is not intense enough, or your field of study is too intense for you. If you enjoy the intensity get a new job. If you don't like it then don't study as much. But don't tell me that the two have to be different. The only reason you view it that way is because you've sheltered yourself from any other view.

You realize we have finite attention spans right? I balance my day fucking around and being productive since I realized that whole "go ham" technique is unsustainable while taking Ochem. I used to feel guilty about people spending hours in the library while I spent like 2 hours a day max studying, but then I realized half of them are being inefficient or are just brainlets.

I'd recommend Kal Newport's "How To Be a Straight A Student," all the students interviewed even say they don't spend all day studying. Like I tell my tutoring students, you're wasting time and adding a bunch of unnecessary stress to your life.
