What things should a HS math curriculum include?

Opinions are a dime a dozen. What matters are the fatwas issued by the centralized and privatized Common Core administration. No submission, no federal funding.

Give it a fucking rest, CC might be far from perferct, or even good, but it's better than the alternatives.

Calculus
Linear Algebra
Probability
Statistics
Stochastic Processes
Ordinary Differential Equations
Graph Theory and Networks

These are the most practical topics and everyone should be familiar with these

Times tables
Division
Basic algebra

There's not enough time to teach students all the information they currently do in the time given, most students forget everything beyond the easy times tables when they leave school
Rather than wasting time trying to teach students stuff they'll forget they should instead spend more time solidifying fundamental maths knowledge so if they do choose to go further they will be able to do so easily

Where the fuck is that four years of college math? It's at most two, and then that would include real analysis.

Sure thing. He's obviously autistic. If he isn't, that story is fucking incredible, and says a hell of a lot about our education philosophy as a whole.

Usually math undergrads also don't have to follow 7 other subjects in different disciplines

>> No.8401725

This more like one year of a class and not a 4 year curriculum but:

basic sets, logic(truth tables, tautologies, contradictions etc), direct proof, proof by contrapositive, proof by contradiction, proof by induction, strong induction, proof by minimum counterexample.

This would save a few dollars for math undergrads and a semester in college if that was the norm in US education in public high school. Those things don't even have to be dedicated in one class, they could stuck into a programming curriculum that schools are pushing because they want to trendy. The only proof method I learned in HS was LHS=RHS QED.

Most European high schools cover that curriculum.
At least on a basic manner.

That's like one month of middle school classes tops.
