Why is it that none of you try to come together to do something great, like make an online compendium of knowledge for society or those like yourself? Or why not unify to make a scientific or mathmatical breakthrough or something like that?

Because it would require effort and wouldn't benefit anyone who took part in it. Additionally theres wikipedia for that. Or even our own /sci/wiki.
We can't make a mathematical breakthrough because most of us are dumb and/or can't collaborate. Even if we could, it's difficult for a large group of people to collaborate on a maths problem.
