Unless you're an instrumentation superstar, I don't see how you're imagining being more successful in a research-driven academic track versus a more technical degree. I say instrumentation because if you're struggling in a comp. eng. degree there's no hope for you in theory.

paleograd here. I recently tutored a freshman undergraduate in math. he wants to major in engineering.
the math I was tutoring him in was algebra 1.

There is no excuse for even the average, but dedicated male to succeed in getting an undergraduate in any STEM program.
You are failing not because of you're intelligence, but because you haven't put in enough effort.

It might not be his fault. I read several news stories in the past year that so and so high school was getting rid of Algebra 1 as a "worthless" subject.

if I drop out of my engineering (im a freshman) and although I love solving problems and doing engineering type stuff, I'm not sure if all the math involved is for me, since I only do well in sciences.

Would majoring in Geology be a bad life decision? or more importantly: Does /sci/ respect geology as a major or would I get shit on for being a geologist? What is the general consensus about geology?

It seems easy as fuck for a science guy, and most of the normies hate it cause they get bored too fast.

Physics because it's the most interesting outside of engineering. I also can reapply to the engineering college if I get my GPA up, hopefully I can back into the programme and not fuck it up this time (basically had a panic attack last year, I've calmed down a bit now my average this semester is a 3.7 so hopefully the dean takes mercy on me).

I'm considering jumping ship from electrical engineering, even though I have a good GPA. I enjoy the material, but the field as a whole strikes me as really shallow.

Tossing around the idea of doing a masters in another field, and am currently looking for an internship at a university science department. I'm not even totally sure what fields really interest me though. Geoscience, atmospheric science, and oceanography are the first that come to mind, since they all seem like areas where you could apply engineering techniques in interesting ways.

Any tips?

>> No.7715349

>>7715169
Stop caring what /sci/ thinks christ.

Do your own research on the fields. Geology is fine, the job market isn't great, but no horrid either. Chemistry and Biology fields are also much less math heavy depending on the electives you take. Then there are plenty of niche degrees like pharma, food science etc.

Grin and bear it. I took a grad level math class this semester and was sure I was going to bomb the final. I studied in a panic for a week and, sure enough, breezed through the test.
