I think he said "create" not invent, but what he meant is that while the common usage of "from scratch" is implied to mean making something not from nearly-completed parts, but instead from the most basic of ingredients, the matter we interact with every day (indeed, the matter we are made of, as well) is all terribly, terribly old. The story of the atoms that make up your hand is billions and billions of years long, and involves the furnace of dying stars, super nova, a molten earth, and so on and so forth.

But all atoms owe their existance to the big bang, either because the were created in it, or because they were created sometime between it and this moment, by the consequences and interaction of matter and energy, all of which have their origin there.

>invent

From his explanation, it would seem he is using "invent" to mean create. Unless you have another explanation.

thats the opening line of the episode about the lives of stars if i remember correctly. describing the lives of stars means you have to get into what makes them live, namely fusion of the lightest element into heavier ones. so talking about living stars is talking about the creation of elements. you need to create heavier elements to create pie.

the information in each episode can sometimes seem sprawling and unrelated. i had to watch them a few times to understand the overall direction of an episode and how everything said is related to the titles

You never build from scratch, you use the parts the universe provides.

Basically that men have dominion over women.
