If my engineering lecturers at university are so smart, and I believe that they are, and their main job is engineering research, how do they get any cutting edge research done if they're each teaching one or more classes a term, supervising various student projects, on committees of all sorts, marking assignments, creating exams etc. Also I'm pretty sure they all work 9 to 5:30 Monday to Friday only.

Why do you think you get 4 months off over summer?

They have this thing called teaching assistants

You're wrong

Because giving lectures and doing supervision meetings is a like a small break for them to recharge their autism levels until they get back to their work.

Yeah this. I worked with an astrophysicist this summer. He would send me mails at 2am and get at work at 9am and only sleep during his noon break

Nah, that's the time you spend doing admin shit and teaching, you spend the rest of the time researching, especially weekends. Teaching and so on is just a huge drain on resources.

>supervising various student projects

Stuff like this also generally ties into their own research and lets them push more publications out.

It happens in all STEM that they try and combine this shit, if you ever have a class that does a lot of field work you'll notice that it's always apart of a long running study and they use the students as cheap labour.

What makes you think that the profs do any actual research? Grad students in the prof's research group do the vast majority of research. The role of the prof is to supervise the grad students, and secure funding by applying for grants.

That being said, there are some cases when profs will actually do their own research (e.g. theory and math profs often do some of their own theoretical work). That being said, most profs will do the vast majority of their own research before becoming a prof, when they were grad students and postdocs.

They teach until they can go on sabbatical so they can go full blown autismo and spend 7 days a week doing abstract topoi categories over sigma-10 hypercomputable semi-algebras.
