Why are people all of a sudden giving a shit about racial and gender representation in the STEM fields? Why is this an issue in the first place? Hasn't it occurred to them that men tend to be the most representative because of their testosterone levels which gives them the impetus to aim high and hit high?

Only the E and T in STEM have a disproportionate amount of males. Incidentally they're also the dumber but more highly paid parts of STEM. So while you could propose that as an argument it wouldn't even be a proper hypothesis until you found a way conduct reproducible controlled experiments against it. Obviously you would know this if you were in the S and M parts of STEM.

I think the real problem is that the E and T parts of STEM are becoming this offputting cyst of autism that bothers everyone including the rest of STEM. Personally I think the easiest solution is to separate the two so that E and T are just their own thing.

social media mobs get people fired. it also is very easy to propagate half truths about people and when they like an ideal such as having diversity for the sake of diversity, people clutch to it and attack those who try to interject logic into their pursuit.

A lot of these people live in the domain where they don't really care about objectivity or truth, just a cohesive, collectivist ideal that is worth any kind of slander, lies, or malevolent act.

Oh and to add one of the worlds largest tech sectors is in the San Francisco Bay Area. Things get very clique-ish if you don't hold the right sociopolitical opinions.

A generation of idle youth feel validated by seeking "social justice" and so act sanctimonious and outraged about any perceived problem, even if there is none. This group of people is loud and mainstream enough that they can impact policy.

So if there are less women in engineering or whatever, even if it's because they don't WANT to be in engineering as often as men, the superficial search for things to "fix" in order to feel validated will result in jumping on the Muh Soggy Knee bandwagon.

It's also currently hip to be a braindead feminist (as opposed to perhaps an informed one), so people will foam at the mouth when there aren't enough female engineers but not give a shit about any context where men are disadvantaged or underrepresented. It's simply hip to be sanctimonious and treat women like perpetual victims.

I don't get it, what do the /pol/esmokers described here have to do with the rest of your post?

What exactly did you disagree with?
>Engineering has 15% female students
>Comp Sci/IT has 15% female students
>Natural Sciences have between 35-65% female students depending on the field.
>Mathematics has 45% female students.

>Everyone agrees that Engineering/Comp Sci/IT is full of retards compared to math and physics.
>Everyone agrees that it's easier to land a higher paying job through engineering/Comp Sci/IT.

>Formally in order for a hypothesis to be considered valid per the scientific method it must be testable via reproducible controlled experiments (this is why religion can't into science).

Well, while I agree that /pol/ spreads garbage across the internet in an effort to dole out social justice and influence policy, it sounds like they do the opposite of what you're saying.

Well I'm not talking about /pol/, you read that into my post / brought that up. I really don't understand /pol/ but my impression is that they are idle and sanctimonious to the right rather than the left. The left are the ones freaking out about diversity. The /pol/ right instead freak out about NIGGERS and JEWS or something.

Well they're both groups of shitposting SJW. I just assumed you were talking about /pol/ because they're the ones we usually see here on /sci/.

In my opinion both of those groups are largely ignored in academia because grad students and researchers are already too over worked and panicked over funding to care about the dumb squabbles going on in social media.

I'm pretty sure /pol/ never ever clamors over diversity and discrimination. That's the left, and that's what the term SJW usually is used to refer to.

Unfortunately though, "gender and women's studies" is a thing in academia. Actual academics have better things to worry about, but these people live to freak out about diversity etc. MIT has a gender studies department, for fucks sake.

god your an idiot.

What's he's saying is that the _acting like an SJW_ is a behavior that's independent of ideology, so the spergs who yell about diversity are no different than the spergs who yell about inbreeding and racial purity.

sperg behavior is what /pol/ is made for, and you're demonstrating it daftly.

I'm sorry, when I said academia I was referring exclusively to STEM (as is the context in this thread). Universities as a whole do a lot of weird shit.

No, I get that. They're similar in principle, but aimed in different directions. And only one of them is doing things relevant to what OP mentioned, pushing for diversity quotas. As far as I know /pol/tards go the extreme in the opposite direction, and don't support diversity quotas, which seems to be what OP is referencing in talking about "people all of a sudden giving a shit about racial and gender representation in the STEM fields".

>sperg behavior is what /pol/ is made for, and you're demonstrating it daftly.
